Ear Filler for Folded or Collapsed Ear Cartilage
Learn how ear filler can reshape a folded or collapsed auricle, and why understanding individual ear anatomy matters more than volume alone.
We occasionally see patients with a folded or flattened auricle (outer ear) who come in requesting ear filler treatment.
The most common request is to lift the ear and reshape it into a smoother, more defined contour.
I covered this topic in a previous blog post:

In these cases, the best approach is to first lift the ear to a reasonable degree, then fill the auricle with filler to refine the shape.
That said, the outline of the folded cartilage does remain to some extent.

Today's patient was exactly that kind of case.
From this angle, it may not be obvious that anything is folded—

But tilt the ear slightly and you can see it right away.
Even if we lift the ear with filler, this shape makes it difficult to achieve a natural, attractive result.

Ideally we would want to fully unfold it like this, but that is not easy to achieve even with surgery.
Ultimately, the folded cartilage is left as is, and filler is placed in the outer auricle to refine and improve the overall shape.

Appearance after filler was placed only at the back of the ear to lift it.

After 1 cc of filler to the auricle.

Final result.

Among patients who come in feeling that their previous ear filler did not turn out well, many have received too much filler placed in the wrong position.
However, many others simply chose a provider who focused solely on volume without a proper understanding of their individual ear anatomy.
Ear filler is a relatively straightforward procedure, but please make sure to seek out a qualified specialist for proper treatment. ^^
P.S. A few people have been curious about the back of the ear, so I've added a photo for reference. ^^;

Thank you.
